Home and Family: Am I Pregnant? The Symptoms of Pregnancy!

When you are wondering if you are pregnant, many things can go through your mind. Regardless if this was a planned pregnancy or an unplanned one, the quicker you find out if you are pregnant, the better it will be for you and your baby.

First, different women experience the symptoms of pregnancy in different ways. However, pregnancy can be determined by observing the symptoms during the early stages. Although missing your period is the first sign of pregnancy, this can also be from a number of other illnesses. The best way to confirm a pregnancy is to have a test done by an authorized medical practitioner. The quickest way to find out if you are pregnant is by taking a home pregnancy test. While most of the over the counter test are extremely accurate, mistakes can occur.

Second, the early stages of pregnancy can bring on a host of hormonal changes. The most frequent symptoms of these changes are fatigue; nausea and vomiting are the most common symptom- and this feeling can be triggered when a woman smells something strong. Dizziness, frequent headaches, urination, cramps in the stomach area, and tender breasts-they start swelling as early as two weeks after conception; spotting, weird food cravings and aversions to foods like fish are attributed to hormones. The increase levels of these hormones coursing through the body also can make many pregnant women extremely moody. This early sign of pregnancy may make you cry at the drop of a hat, or it may make you overly emotional in certain situations. These are all happening due to the changes in hormones.

Needless to say Pregnancy is also the time for overall discomfort for many women. Most feel back pain in early pregnancy because of the increased levels of progesterone. During pregnancy, the progesterone softens the ligaments and discs in a woman's back. Urinary tract infection is the other cause of back pain. Women may also feel spasms or cramps in the lower back along with back pain. However, most of the back pains disappear as the pregnancy progresses.

Finally, these early signs of pregnancy are not conclusive; nor are the signs and symptoms exclusive to pregnancy. They could indicate that you are about to get sick or that your period is coming soon. And, in some women, pregnancy can occur without any of the later signs and symptoms of pregnancy. But, if you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to take a home pregnancy test and consult with your obstetrician. Remember the sooner you confirm your pregnancy the better for you and your baby.
